what should i name my book
Re: quantumbound general
Greetings, Sir.
My name is Spiny Things. What can I say about myself? I'm 27, going on 32, am Kansan, have autism, ADHD, and a number of other undiagnosed conditions, like all of the dorky stuff like video games, though I like to think I have more refined tastes, and could be the youngest distributed animated feature director soon.
I've written over 50 pages of the script for the first installment in a character-based, defiantly modern, hard space opera called A Song of Stars and Ships (ASOSAS: Jupiter, for the first book) that I've been brainstorming for about 5 years, and that's just in its current form. So it's not quite ready for submission yet. But you're one of the three studios I was going to send it to anyway once it was done, and I was wondering if you could help me with something.
A lot of people who know I'm making a movie, most of whom haven't even read the script, are incredulous on its viability on the market and quality. Someone dared me to send it to someone who's opinion mattered to see if they thought ASOSAS can be what I think it can be, and, I'll be honest, I settled on you because I thought you'd like it the most. I think this would be a great way to set me on the right track to finishing this movie. Any problems you can spot I can fix in my next script draft or storyboards and down the line, and you can tell me right off the bat if you think it'll be worth producing. Best of all, if you really like it, you can get dibs.
Effectively, I'm approaching you as both a producer and as a distributor in specific, because though the movie is not ready for production quite yet, I do intend to send it to producers down the line. If you want to proofread the script or just tell me if it interests you as a producer, either is fine, and if it does interest you, perhaps we can pick up negotiations when the movie is ready for production.
If you would be generous enough to agree to this, please tell me if you want to see a standard submission or something else. Thank you.

i think the key misunderstanding is that i shot ljr a PERSONAL letter, not a formal submission.

oh lordFlammarcos wrote:a cover letter is literally "talk about yourself and what you've been doing" remind me to disregard any opinions you have in the future and to kick myself for even doing thisgeorge lucas wrote:that letter really makes you look like one if you arent somehowFlammarcos wrote:appaloosa horse wrote:because you are a narcissist
self promotion doesn't mean much if you don't have at least something small to back it up with (from what it sounds like you didn't include any of your novel with the letter), and there is a such thing as overselling yourself

i didn't want to come on too strong especially since it wasn't a formal application. maybe that was a mistake. regardless when it's done i can submit it again and see if she changes her mind

Re: quantumbound general
agents dont give free advice and if she decided to work with you then you mightve needed to pay her something up front because profits arent a certain thing with creative work unless its something huge/part of an ongoing series that has been established as a moneymaker
