so i have this copy of anthem sitting below my bed and i havent even bothered to touch it since i bought it for school (and we wont be reading it because anthem is gay and lord of the flies is infinitely superior) and i picked it up and o god what the FUFCK

the ayn rand society cant design for shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit and i should actually read this sometime

grade 9 technically but early colleges doesnt really employ a grade system so much as a "freshman etc" system

also we were going to read it at first and they told us that it would help to buy it but then we started LoTF so now i have a shitty copy laying around gathering the local dust and moths

i really thought lotf was a grade 7ish book though

i skimread anthem like a week ago and jesus christ ayn rand somehow finds ways to make everything she puts out unreadable even if it's interesting

anthem had a good premise but the shitty prose really killed it for me

lord of the flies can be read in middle school dogman just you have to be in high school to understand all of the details

yeah

you can totally read LOTF in middle school but there isn't much of a point because everything in the book is symbolism of some kind and it'll fly over a middle schooler's head

eh when it was part of the reading in my school(7th) we went heavy with the symbolism
when i read it again as part of my 9th grade class they didn't bother with any symbolism and just read it like any other book
public schools

well once you've read all the symbolism in LOTF you've kind of seen it all and there's not much point in revisiting it

the class itself didn't bother teaching anything about the symbolism of the book
they just had us read and take tests(which were pretty much just comprehension that you'd have to be an idiot not to pass)

i read it in like 6th grade and i got a lot of the symbolism

it really isn't that hard to wrap your head around if you aren't completely ignorant
