THE FIRST WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE FIRST WEEK of the Equestrian Cup kicked off the momentous beginning to what most likely will end up as sixteen weeks worth of pain and agony for nearly everybody who's not a pony. The Cup's knockout stage games were announced to be officially hosted in Nylzsryf, marking the second time the Cup will be hosted there.
PONYVILLE 5 - 0 TROTTINGHAM
CLOUDSDALE 1 - 2 APPLELOOSA
CANTERLOT 3 - 1 MANEHATTAN
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 1 - 0 - 0 | 5 - 0 | +5 | 3
CANTERLOT --- 1 - 0 - 0 | 3 - 1 | +2 | 3
APPLELOOSA --- 1 - 0 - 0 | 2 - 1 | +1 | 3
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 0 - 1 | 1 - 2 | -1 | 0
MANEHATTAN --- 0 - 0 - 1 | 1 - 3 | -2 | 0
TROTTINGHAM --- 0 - 0 - 1 | 0 - 5 | -5 | 0
PONYVILLE TROUNCES MANEHATTAN.
CONTINUING UPON THEIR successes from last year, the Ponyvillians started this year with a 5-0 trouncing of Trottingham - which, while probably not saying a lot, certainly must inspire them to some extent. The game became a runaway after Dash, as usual, scored a hat-trick in her own personal record time of 18 minutes and 29 seconds. Two other goals got booted in by Applejack later on, giving Ponyville a huge advantage in goal differentials. What this may affect in the future remains to be seen.
AND THE AWARD FOR "HOW IN THE SEVEN HELLS OF EQUESTRIA DID THAT HAPPEN?" GOES TO...
APPLELOOSA SOMEHOW FOUND a way to win a game they really, really should not have even had a chance in. They gave up a goal in the 78th minute -- their regulation record being exactly 0-0-12 when a goal is scored after the 75th minute -- and all hope seemed absolutely lost, when suddenly, out of nowhere in the 83rd minute, Braeburn belts one in from 115 feet -- thirty five meters -- out and completely shocks the entire Cloudsdale team, and their fans. And then, out of absolutely nowhere again, in the 92nd, Appleloosa scored another one, and walk away with a 2-1 victory over a team which usually fields their backup roster and still wins convincingly against them. Evidently, the gods are Appleloosa fans.
AND MEANWHILE, IN CANTERLOT
THE ENTIRE CANTERLOTIAN team basically offers no resistance to their Manehattan counterparts, and still wins 3-1.
Do we even need to say anything more?
ON ANOTHER FRONT
NYLZSRYF GOT TO play their rivals in blue Lawvsgara at home, and managed somehow to draw with them in one of the only games worth mentioning between the other teams. The other one was Kalatsa playing Tsiniya, and handily blowing them to Tartarus by a score of 8-3. That game set a Tsiniya team record for "most goals allowed," and put them down by five in the goal differential, putting them in dead last in the Kryfona Division.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE FIRST WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
PONYVILLE FANS CERTAINLY get to rejoice for the time being, as they're leading the standings already, and don't seem to be letting up. Canterlot gets to play them next in the first of this season's Elunessien derbies. On another front, there comes also this week the first Trottingham-Cloudsdale game, which will definitely be a fun one. Cloudsdale is of course Cloudsdale -- also the favorites -- and Trottingham and its fans are dug in for the long haul, despite having lost their first game 5-0. Basically, a recipe for quite a debacle, and certainly one of truly epic proportions. As for the gryphon and phoenix side of things, Nylzsryf is looking to strike a decisive blow against their other rivals, Kryfona F.C. in their upcoming match, despite a poor start and 1-1 draw, and Kalatsa gets to play newcomers Szanie (who won against Adborthos 3-1 by the way) after their blowout against Tsiniya.
----------------------------------------------------
THE SECOND WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE SECOND WEEK of the Equestrian Cup is the one where things pick up and start to actually get heated. Ponyville is looking for another win to boost themselves further on in the tournament, while the rest of the teams just clamor for the next few rungs down. Presently, Manehattan and Trottingham are in position to be eliminated from qualification, but since this is only the start of week 2, anything could happen.
PONYVILLE 4 - 2 CANTERLOT
TROTTINGHAM 2 - 2 CLOUDSDALE
MANEHATTAN 0 - 3 APPLELOOSA
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 2 - 0 - 0 | 9 - 2 | +7 | 6
APPLELOOSA --- 2 - 0 - 0 | 5 - 1 | +4 | 6
CANTERLOT --- 1 - 0 - 1 | 3 - 1 | +2 | 3
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 1 - 1 | 3 - 5 | -2 | 1
TROTTINGHAM --- 0 - 1 - 1 | 2 - 7 | -5 | 1
MANEHATTAN --- 0 - 0 - 2 | 1 - 6 | -5 | 0
ELUNESSIEN DERBY #1: "PONYVILLE AVOD ALA!"
TO THE SURPISE of exactly nobody, except probably the entirety of Canterlot, Ponyville won a nice 4-2 victory over the hometown team, in the process padding their goal differential to +7. The scoring started with a 29th minute Canterlot goal, but Ponyville proceeded to put up four unanswered goals in the next 55 minutes (37', 44', 72', 81') to make the game a 4-1 affair. Canterlot at least got some satisfaction from a 90th minute goal, which brought the defeat down to a modest 4-2. Also, in a sort of oddity, Dash scored only one of Ponyville's four goals, the other three going to Tvilya, Pinkie and Applejack.
No word yet on how the gods are going to react to this one, by the way.
KALDSDALIEN DERBY #1: "WAIT, WE'RE SUPPOSED TO WIN?"
CLOUDSDALE SCORED THEIR first Cup point today, in a painful 2-2 draw to the Trottinghamians. Despite being up 2-0 at the end of the first half, Cloudsdale found a way to give up two goals and were forced into a draw that shouldn't have even happened. This draw has reasons behind it, of course, and it probably wouldn't have happened had it not been for two things. The first thing was a plainly silly challenge by Cloudsdale's Surpise, which -- whoops! -- brought the Cloudsdalians down to ten seventy minutes in. The second thing? Keeping their back line the same as last year. A breakaway by Trottingham managed to completely and utterly circumvent the four Cloudsdalians back there -- all of whom ran in to this exact problem when Cloudsdale was cruelly blown out 6-0 last year in the final -- and put up a goal in the seventy-fifth. Then, it happened again, minus the goal, which forced a corner in the eighty-third. A casual kick flew in to the box and fell nicely to one of Trottinham's players, and suddenly, it was 2-2. And, being one down a key midfielder, Cloudsdale ended up with nothing, and the game ended 2-2. Evidently, the Cloudsdalians forgot that they were supposed to win.
OFF IN THE SWELTERING HEAT OF APPLELOOSA
THE APPLELOOSAN HEAT claimed its first victim today -- the entire Manehattan team. Suffering under the sun, and in peak temperatures of 108 degrees today, the Manehattanites gave up three goals to the Appleloosans, who cruised on to an easy victory -- the first time in three Cups that they've won their first two games. It's possible however that this is just be a fluke result, though. Appleloosa's true test comes against Ponyville, who they get to play next.
ON ANOTHER FRONT #2
NOTHING INTERESTING HAPPENED in the other games, really. Nylzsryf and Kryfona F.C. played a tight game, but Kryfona went on to win 3-2 with a late goal off of Yozamilys Azscilyca. Szanie came home with a 1-1 draw against Kalatsa, and Jadahala and Kataboriyos drew 2-2 as well in the first Edazoran derby.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE SECOND WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
IT WOULD BE a bit of a stretch to say that the mood in anywhere that isn't Ponyville or Appleloosa is particularly cheerful. Canterlot lost their third straight derby to rivals Ponyville, which did not go over well with either fans or the team. Cloudsdale was furious after their 2-2 draw, especially since they lost a good player and a contributor to the Cloudsdalian "steel curtain." Blaming the Trottinghamians for their grief, the Cloudsdalians came very close to actually starting some sort of melee after the game. Appleloosa is taking it as it comes, and Manehattan's hoping for a quick turnaround next week. Pretty much all the Drakona, Gryphon and Phoenix teams are even, so yeah.
----------------------------------------------------
THE THIRD WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE THIRD WEEK of the Equestrian Cup is one of those weeks that everyone just takes in stride. Going in, Ponyvile and Appleloosa are the two undefeated teams, and they both have to play each other. Canterlot gets to play Cloudsdale for the first time, and this leaves Trottingham and Manehattan to try and murder each other in their usual competitions.
PONYVILLE 3 - 1 APPLELOOSA
CLOUDSDALE 2 - 3 CANTERLOT
TROTTINGHAM 5 - 3 MANEHATTAN
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 3 - 0 - 0 | 12 - 3 | +9 | 9
CANTERLOT --- 2 - 0 - 1 | 6 - 3 | +3 | 6
APPLELOOSA --- 2 - 0 - 1 | 6 - 4 | +2 | 6
TROTTINGHAM --- 1 - 1 - 1 | 7 - 10 | -3 | 4
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 1 - 2 | 5 - 8 | -3 | 1
MANEHATTAN --- 0 - 0 - 3 | 4 - 11 | -7 | 0
FAIRLY EVEN IN PONYVILLE
KICKING OFF THE week, Ponyville drove home a 3-1 victory on home soil to go 3-0-0 for the first time in recent memory. They probably would have enjoyed shutting Appleloosa out, but they'll take the three points and the boost to their goal differential, which now stands at a seemingly insurmountable +9. Appleloosa meanwhile showed that yes, they are capable of at least putting points on the board against Ponyville, which is sure to comfort them in coming weeks.
CLOUDSDALE BALKS YET AGAIN, AND THIS TIME IT'S A REALLY BAD ONE.
TO SAY THAT Cloudsdale is upset would be slightly understating it. Going in, they had yet to win a single game this season, stood at 1 point in second to last (only Manehattan is worse, with 2 losses) and sported a -2 goal differential. Today, they were hoping for something, anything that wasn't a loss -- and for awhile there, they had it in the bag -- up 2-1 on the 2013 champions, who'd bested them so many times before. And then threw it away. Again.
In the 69th minute, Cloudsdale was up 2-1. With absolutely no warning whatsoever, Canterlot goes on the offensive, breaks the lines of the Cloudsdalians, and smashes one past poor Thunderlane in the net to tie it up at 2-2. No big deal, though. For once, the entire Cloudsdalian team is at ease, believing that 20 minutes is plenty of time to put one in themselves. For awhile, it all seems like Cloudsdale is still one up on their arch-rivals.
And then, it happens again. A misfortunate break by Cloudsdale in the 87th turns into a Canterlotian break, and before Thunderlane even sees it coming, the ball is in and Canterlot has somehow made it 3-2. And in the Cloudsdalian camp, the tears flew -- especially for Thunderlane.
No word yet on what's come of that.
TROTTINGHAM ISN'T TOTALLY WORTHLESS, AND MANEHATTAN STILL SUCKS.
A LIGHTER NOTE played in Trottingham, as they cruised on to a 5-3 victory against Manehattan in their first slogfest of this year. This convenient little victory puts Trottingham in a decent fourth place, meaning they're in position to qualify. Manehattan, at least, can be consoled by the fact that their goal differential could be something like -10 right now. Also, with Cloudsdale sucking really badly, they have a fair chance of overtaking them and being in serious contention for the Cup qualification rounds this year.
ON ANOTHER FRONT #3
THIS WEEK SAW a pretty good match between Kryfona and Rsza, which ended in a 4-3 victory for the latter team. Kasila Tuszije came away with three of the four Rszan goals, making her the second player to score a hat-trick this year. Also, Jadahala and Adborthos came away with a 2-2 draw, and Nylzsryf claimed a victory against Azsaeh in a 5-1 beatdown.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE THIRD WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
PONYVILLE IS STILL jubilant. Canterlot is happy. Appleloosa is in high spirits. Trottingham is impressing themselves. Cloudsdale? Absolutely distraught. They're 0-1-2 for the first time in their history, and it's been close to thirty years since they played their first three games without winning a single one. The apparent disaster unfolding in Cloudsdalian soccer is not one the team is exactly ignoring. Spitfire kindly pointed out that "the entire problem is that the defense is straight up sucking, and short of punting can't get the ball anywhere without screwing up," which is something that plagued them last year. And of course, nobody's going to forget the finals. Five of the six goals came off of defensive errors -- particularly the 38th second "header of the gods" and the 3rd minute "pass of the century." Not to discount, of course, the 56th minute "defensive disasterfest," followed up in quick time by the 67th minute "what the hell are we doing?" penalty and 73rd minute "how the hell did you let that happen?" goal that should have never been. So, it's not as if this is a problem that's just sprung up. Cloudsdale's been battling it for years, and it's only now that it's coming back to bite them. It's not as if Cloudsdale can do a lot in any case, though, as they really don't have many defensive players beyond the ones out on the field.
Still, it's nice to speculate.
----------------------------------------------------
THE FOURTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE FOURTH WEEK of the Equestrian Cup is one of those weeks where usually, strange things happen. It's always been that way -- back in the 1960s Cloudsdale usually murdered their opponents in the fourth week of the season. In the 70s, Ponyville was characterized by their ability to come from behind in every fourth week game that they were down in, including a comeback victory after being down 4-0 against Appleloosa. In the 80s, it was Trottingham which usually managed to hold teams they otherwise couldn't to no goals. Since then, the strange tendencies of the fourth week have alternated every year between teams. This week, however, is a bye week for Trottingham, Cloudsdale and Appleloosa. It is a cross-divisional week for Ponyville, Canterlot and Manehattan.
NYLZSRYF 1 - 5 PONYVILLE
RSZA 2 - 4 CANTERLOT
MANEHATTAN 3 - 0 AZSAEH
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 4 - 0 - 0 | 17 - 4 | +13 | 12
CANTERLOT --- 3 - 0 - 1 | 10 - 5 | +5 | 9
APPLELOOSA --- 2 - 0 - 1 | 6 - 4 | +2 | 6
TROTTINGHAM --- 1 - 1 - 1 | 7 - 10 | -3 | 4
MANEHATTAN --- 1 - 0 - 3 | 7 - 11 | -4 | 3
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 1 - 2 | 5 - 8 | -3 | 1
CROSS-DIVISIONS #1: NYLZSRYF VIZ ELUZIANSZA
PONYVILLE CAME IN with a sort of expectation that this might actually be a hard fought game. Nylzsryf was a team that traditionally had such games against Ponyville, and only one time had any of their games been won by more than 2 points. The moral of this story is, history sure as hell is not everything. Ponyville scored a 5-1 victory on Nylzsryf, which elevates them to a +13 GD. To put that in to perspective, most teams score an average of two, maybe three goals a game. It would take Canterlot -- who are second in the qualifications right now -- three weeks to overcome the deficit, assuming nobody scored in Ponyville's next three games. In other words: don't expect Ponyville to get knocked off that top rung any time soon.
Speaking of Canterlot though...
CROSS-DIVISIONS #2: RSZA VIZ SAFIYINTILATI
RSZA DID OKAY if you consider they're in dire straights in their division right now. A 4-2 loss against Canterlot certainly could have been much worse.
Beyond the six goals, there isn't much to say besides the fact that Safiyintilati won.
CROSS-DIVISIONS #3: MINHYJETA VIZ AZSAEH
FINISHING OUT THE pony clean sweep, Manehattan won their first game against an opponent when they beat Azsaeh 3-0. This is about the last thing you'd want if you're Azsaeh, because you're fighting for the top spot right now. Also, if you're Cloudsdale, this is literally the worst thing that could happen, because now you actually are in dead last.
Also, the Drakona/Phoenix division had some stuff -- nothing came of that, really. Jadahala leads the standings.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
NOT A WHOLE lot needs to be said. Ponyville's still on top, Cloudsdale is now on the bottom, and the world as we know it could very possibly be flipped upside-down if they don't win their next game.
----------------------------------------------------
THE FIFTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE FIFTH WEEK isn't very special in many regards -- typically it is just the first cross-divisional week in the qualification. This year, it is the second. It is a bye week for Ponyville, Canterlot, and Manehattan, and a cross-divisional week for Cloudsdale, Appleloosa and Trottingham.
TROTTINGHAM 3 - 2 KRYFONA
APPLELOOSA 4 - 1 ISENNE
CLOUDSDALE 1 - 2 LAWVSGARA
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 4 - 0 - 0 | 17 - 4 | +13 | 12
CANTERLOT --- 3 - 0 - 1 | 10 - 5 | +5 | 9
APPLELOOSA --- 3 - 0 - 1 | 10 - 5 | +5 | 9
TROTTINGHAM --- 2 - 1 - 1 | 10 - 12 | -2 | 7
MANEHATTAN --- 1 - 0 - 3 | 7 - 11 | -4 | 3
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 1 - 3 | 6 - 10 | -4 | 1
CROSS-DIVISIONS #4: TROTTINGHAM V KRYFONA F.C.
TROTTINGHAM EARNED ITS second victory against Kryfona F.C, today, in what proved to actually be a somewhat entertaining match. Despite it being 2-2 with only a couple minutes remaining, Trottingham seemed to definitely want the win, and in an incredible twist of fate managed to score a late goal to put it away 3-2.
CROSS-DIVISIONS #5: APPLELOOSA V ISENNE
APPLELOOSA CRUISED ON to a pretty easy 4-1 victory against Isenne Tuszkeya. Two goals in the first five minutes practically guaranteed victory from the start, and it was good.
CROSS-DIVISIONS #6: CLOUDSDALE V LAWVSGARA
0-1-3. THREE LOSSES, and one draw. Not a single win. This is unprecedented in the history of Cloudsdalian soccer -- never have they played their first four games in a row without winning at least one of them. They were up 1-0 within six minutes of the game's beginning, and then proceeded to lose again in yet another game where they started out ahead and then unfortunately gave it away. In the 49th minute, they gave up one, and then in the 69th they gave up another, and that was that. Cloudsdale lost 2-1, and are now dead last in the Pony Division. Hardly anything more can be said, and there isn't a whole lot that can be put in to words to describe just how badly this is going.
And then there was some more stuff in the D/Ph division, but nothing came of it again. Szanie leading, still.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
CLOUDSDALE, CLOUDSDALE, CLOUDSDALE. That's all there really is to discuss this week, with them being 0-1-3 and all. This never has happened, and most likely, it never will again if it keeps up. Between how badly they've managed their four games thus far, the Cloudsdalian team has received a terrible reception from their fans. This would be surprising, if it weren't for how the Cloudsdalians are fairly reknowned in the league for their exceptional nationalism -- something that has earned them the moniker of "Ul Krasziy," the crazies. Needless to say, though, even if they weren't crazy, they would certainly frown upon how well their team is doing.
----------------------------------------------------
THE SIXTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE SIXTH WEEK of the Equestrian cup marks the fifth game for everybody. This week is usually the week for teams with subpar records to try and get back in stride, because rarely has a team gone past week 6 with a losing record or close to losing record and gone on to even make the knockout stages, much less win.
PONYVILLE 4 - 0 MANEHATTAN
CANTERLOT 2 - 3 APPLELOOSA
TROTTINGHAM 1 - 1 CLOUDSDALE
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 5 - 0 - 0 | 21 - 4 | +17 | 15
APPLELOOSA --- 4 - 0 - 1 | 12 - 7 | +5 | 12
CANTERLOT --- 3 - 0 - 2 | 12 - 8 | +4 | 9
TROTTINGHAM --- 2 - 2 - 1 | 11 - 13 | -2 | 8
MANEHATTAN --- 1 - 0 - 4 | 7 - 15 | -8 | 3
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 2 - 3 | 7 - 11 | -4 | 2
VIRAN TU VIRAN
PONYVILLE WINS. AGAIN. Not much to be said here. They won 4-0 and got a couple funny goals off of Dash.
GLORY, GLORY APPELUESA! AS UL DISIRTANS MIRKAN AN!
APPLELOOSA TOOK 2ND in the Pony Division today, which is the first time in forever they haven't been just breaking even or outright losing. This is of course a feat that they have celebrated tremendously, and their 3-2 victory today ended with a storming of the field to commemorate that fact.
OH GOD, NOT AGAIN.
NO DOUBT THE world is getting tired of the "Cloudsdale is getting destroyed this year" headlines, but really, they're not helping their case. They drew 1-1 today against Trottingham, denying them vitally needed points that could very easily cost them in the near future. Sitting at just 2 points six weeks in is dangerous, especially with Trottingham at 8 points and climbing. Not even getting in to the whole idea that Cloudsdale very likely may not even win a single game this year, which is completely possible since we're officially almost halfway through the Cup season. That said, short of a miracle comeback in the second half of the leadup, this Cup might already be over for them.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE SIXTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
WELL, IGNORING THE terrible performance of the Cloudsdalians, Ponyville is pretty much guaranteed first place with that insurmountable +17 GD, unless they end up losing a few games, which is not a very likely probability. Then again, better teams have done such a thing, so it's not impossible, but Ponyville has always been that one not to screw up.
Oh yeah, and Appleloosa might seriously take second.
Oh yeah, and Trottingham might actually make it. No, really.
By the way, the standings in the other divisions are:
ISENNE TUZ --- 3 - 1 - 1 | 8 - 5 | +3 | 10
LAWVSGARA --- 2 - 2 - 1 | 8 - 7 | +1 | 8
RSZA --- 2 - 0 - 3 | 11 - 15 | -4 | 6
NYLZSRYF --- 1 - 2 - 2 | 11 - 10 | +1 | 5
KRYFONA --- 1 - 1 - 3 | 9 - 12 | -3 | 4
AZSAEH --- 1 - 0 - 4 | 4 - 12 | -8 | 3
SZANIE --- 3 - 1 - 1 | 8 - 3 | +5 | 10
TSINIYA --- 3 - 1 - 1 | 9 -11 | -2 | 10
ADBORTHOS --- 2 - 1 - 2 | 7 - 8 | -1 | 7
KATABORIYOS --- 1 - 1 - 3 | 8 - 9 | -1 | 7
KALATSA --- 1 - 1 - 3 | 12 - 10 | +2 | 4
JADAHALA --- 0 - 3 - 2 | 8 - 11 | -3 | 3
----------------------------------------------------
THE SEVENTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE SEVENTH WEEK of the Equestrian cup is the week for the second round of cross-divisional games for the Pony division (and they are the only division which has to play two cross-divisional weeks). All D/Ph teams play a pony team this week. The first place of the D/Ph plays the first place of the Pony, and so on.
PONYVILLE 2 - 1 SZANIE
APPLELOOSA 1 - 1 TSINIYA
CANTERLOT 4 - 0 ADBORTHOS
KALATSA 0 - 1 TROTTINGHAM
KATABORIYOS 3 - 1 MANEHATTAN
JADAHALA 1 - 1 CLOUDSDALE
(Overall: 3 Pony victories, 2 draws, 1 D/Ph victory)
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 6 - 0 - 0 | 23 - 5 | +18 | 18
APPLELOOSA --- 4 - 1 - 1 | 13 - 8 | +5 | 13
CANTERLOT --- 4 - 0 - 2 | 16 - 8 | +8 | 12
TROTTINGHAM --- 3 - 2 - 1 | 12 - 13 | -1 | 11
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 3 - 3 | 8 - 12 | -4 | 3
MANEHATTAN --- 1 - 0 - 5 | 8 - 18 | -10 | 3
STILL CRUSHING IT
PONYVILLE EDGED OUT Szanie in their closest game so far. 2 - 1 was the final score, which is the lowest number of goals that Ponyville has put in over the span of one game this year. They still came away with a win, though, so they're not complaining. Oh yeah, and they've got a +18 goal differential now.
UNDER THE SWELTERING SUN
OUT IN THE Appleloosan desert, Tsiniya just barely held on to a draw. The temperature was almost 110 when the game began, and it was still hovering just above 100 when it ended. Nevertheless, the Appleloosans only put in one goal. Then again, so did Tsiniya, so presumably Appleloosa doesn't mind. They're still in second, Appleloosa, with 13 points and a +5 goal differential.
NO CONTEST HERE
CANTERLOT ROUTED ADBORTHOS. Final scoreline for that particular game: 4 - 0 in favor of the Kel. Adborthos at least probably won't have to work too hard to keep in third place in the D/Ph.
TROTTINGHAM AND KALATSA
0 - 0 SCORELINE AT the 92nd minute. One final chance for Trottingham to bring home a win. They march up the field in an almost commanding style, get through gaps that they never should have, and in an absolutely miraculous play manage to slot one past two defenders and the Kalatsan goalkeeper to make it 1-0 at the final whistle. And they're only two points behind Appleloosa and one behind Canterlot now on top of it.
MANIHETTANI
IN THE ONLY victory for the D/Ph, the Kataboriyans managed to win 3-1 on the Manehattanites. This actually proved fortunate for Cloudsdale, because...
SAVIERA!!
...THEY DREW 1-1 with Jadahala, giving them a single point, and fifth on goal differential. No, seriously. It actually took them this long to pass a 1-0-5 team.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE SEVENTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
WE'RE NOT EVEN sure anymore about Cloudsdale's contention for the Cup, but we're assuming that it is not likely. About the most they can hope for at this point is a whole of eighteen points -- the number Ponyville, who is in first place, has. This isn't much of an issue in its own right, but Trottingham -- which is in fourth place -- has eleven, and if they win three more games (or even two, really) Cloudsdale is basically out of contention.
At least they have Manehattan for company this year.
----------------------------------------------------
THE EIGHTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
THE EIGHTH WEEK of the Equestrian cup is the seventh actual match week, and basically the last chance for Cloudsdale and Manehattan this year.
PONYVILLE 7 - 0 CLOUDSDALE
APPLELOOSA 3 - 1 TROTTINGHAM
CANTERLOT 2 - 2 MANEHATTAN
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 7 - 0 - 0 | 30 - 5 | +25 | 21
APPLELOOSA --- 5 - 1 - 1 | 16 - 9 | +7 | 16
CANTERLOT --- 4 - 1 - 2 | 18 - 10 | +8 | 13
TROTTINGHAM --- 3 - 2 - 2 | 13 - 16 | -3 | 11
MANEHATTAN --- 1 - 1 - 5 | 10 - 20 | -10 | 4
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 3 - 4 | 8 - 19 | -11 | 3
FOR THE LOVE OF CELESTIA AND ALL THAT IS HOLY, ARE YOU FOR REAL?!
PONYVILLE AND CLOUDSDALE met for the first, and probably only time this year today, and to put it lightly, it was not a pleasant experience. At least, not if you're a Cloudsdalian, no, it wasn't. Going in, they expected at least a bit of resistance, something, anything, against the Ponyvillian onslaught that had brought down so many teams before.
For a bit, it worked.
Then the inevitable came.
As opposed to the thirty seconds it took the first time, it took four minutes for Ponyville to put one up off of more defensive errors. The next one came thirteen minutes in, and then another in the twenty-eighth, and then another in the forty-third. By the time the first half ended, Cloudsdale was actually down by more than it was in the infamous final last year. It didn't get better for them either. After thirty-four minutes of silence, another goal went in, and then two more in the eighty-third and eighty-sixth.
Final? 7-0. Four goals by Dash, three by AJ.
Result of the 7-0 score? Thunderlane trying and failing to get at Dash for "running up the score," utter chaos, more than a few red cards for the Cloudsdalians, and just an utter disaster which compounded the miserable failures of the team this entire year.
End result? You have three Cloudsdalians out, a bunch of angry Ponyvillians, and the Cloudsdalians are basically out of Cup contention for all intents and purposes.
Did we mention that they still have four games to play?
THE SUN ALWAYS GETS HOTTER IN THE MIDDLE OF WHEREVER.
IN SPITE OF home soil advantage, the entire Trottingham team spent the entire day losing 3-1 to a pretty much not-even-trying Appleloosan team, which is mostly just trying to keep second place. A large part of the loss can likely be attributed to the fact that that the Trottinghamians have never been good playing anybody, but there also existed the nearly ninety degree temperatures that provided the backdrop for the game, so there's that too.
OOPS, OH GOD
CANTERLOT AND MANEHATTAN drew after a fairly uneventful day wherein Canterlot blew a 2-0 lead. It really was quite amazing just how boring a comeback from such an awful team against such a good team could be. In spite of their comeback, the two goals that the Manehattanois scored were seriously some of the most uninspirational goals in history, one being a simple tap in and the other being a penalty. That said, it was only by pure chance that Canterlot kept the elusive third place despite an abysmal performance -- this week Trottingham had to play the always-destructive Appleloosa, and predictably lost.
MEANWHILE IN THE OTHER DIVISIONS
ISENNE OBLITERATED AZSAEH, and the rest of the games were unexciting slogfests. Kataboriyos did likewise to the Jadahalans and took second, while Tsiniya beat Szanie to keep the top spot.
----------------------------------------------------
AFTERMATH OF THE EIGHTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
IF A 7-0 defeat when playing your rivals is considered one of the best things that's happened to you all season, you know you're in deep. Cloudsdale's 7-0 loss is tied as their worst in history -- tying with a beatdown Canterlot inflicted them in 1956 which ended a horrific 8-1. But even that would be better right now, considering that three of the Cloudsdalians aren't even capable of playing next week. Thunderlane got a nice red card for the antics post-game, along with two others -- red cards meaning "automatic one game suspension." In other words, they'd be down to their backup goalie, who has pretty much never been needed, and two backups in midfield, who have never been needed either.
You tell me what this is going to cause considering they have to play Canterlot and have only eight goals this whole season.
----------------------------------------------------
THE NINTH WEEK OF THE EQUESTRIAN CUP
IN THE NINTH week of the Equestrian cup this year, we get to see a whole lot of presumably hollow games. With the bottom two teams out of contention for all intents and purposes, it now comes down to the top four to secure a good place.
APPLELOOSA 1 - 3 PONYVILLE
MANEHATTAN 2 - 4 TROTTINGHAM
CLOUDSDALE 0 - 5 CANTERLOT
PONY DIVISION
TEAM --- W - T - L | GF - GA | +/- | PTS
PONYVILLE --- 8 - 0 - 0 | 33 - 6 | +27 | 24
CANTERLOT --- 5 - 1 - 2 | 23 - 10 | +13 | 16
APPLELOOSA --- 5 - 1 - 2 | 17 - 12 | +5 | 16
TROTTINGHAM --- 4 - 2 - 2 | 17 - 18 | -1 | 14
MANEHATTAN --- 1 - 1 - 6 | 12 - 24 | -12 | 4
CLOUDSDALE --- 0 - 3 - 5 | 8 - 24 | -16 | 3
OFF IN THE AUTUMN SUN
THE SECOND DERBY between Ponyville and Appleloosa ended 3-1 in favor of Ponyville, just like the first time. Appleloosa calls it a fairly good showing; Ponyville doesn't care.
UNDER THE AUTUMN SHADE
MEANWHILE IN MANEHATTAN, the eponymous Manehattanois lost a pretty awful match 4-2 to Trottingham in the second THMH derby of the season. The game was actually pretty good at the start for the Ois, scoring both of their goals and not letting in a single one from the 'Hamians. This did not carry over in to the second half -- Trottingham scored three times in the first eight minutes, and then put a fourth in during stoppage time. This isn't the first time either. They lost the first derby 5-3, despite being up 3-1 on Trottingham in the 45th minute.
BENEATH THE AUTUMN TWILIGHT
CAPPING OFF AN otherwise fairly uneventful evening, Cloudsdale got blown out hard by Savintelati. Owing mostly to their lack of a good starting goalkeeper -- thank you, Thunderlane! -- the team recorded another painful shutout loss, in which the Canterlotians rallied five goals in a little under 63 minutes. At that point, the entire Cloudsdalian team basically ceased as an entity, and mostly just started playing to keep the Savintelati out of the goal. It worked, but they were still shut out and the final score was a cringeworthy 5-0. If there ever was a reason to feel sympathetic to the cause, this is probably it.
