steam greenlight general
spending $100 on the greenlight program allows anyone who can make a thing in unity or similar game engine have the possibility to publish their game on steam for profit
i say "thing", not "game", because there is an appalling amount of greenlit or early-access steam games available that are not even games, nor even examples of development. many "games" on this marketplace are actually assets bought from the unity asset store, run by and for developers of unity games. several games made with these bought assets don't even do anything with them, other than rebrand them with a different title and just publish themselves as an original piece. let jim explain further.

"b-but muh indies
it's not fair for the little devs
big bad corporations crush the poor devs
why do you hate the little guy?"
guarantee that you get something resembling this if you call out these kind of "games" on the discussion boards

Re: steam greenlight general
greenlight is a fucking mess
not only are non-games getting up, with pretty much no development aside from legoing together bad or bought assets, but sometimes even hate speech in the form of a video game can get on it
say what you will about the hate speech being given, but it's still fucking hate speech, being published where games are supposed to be

Re: steam greenlight general
has greenlight ever actually greenlighted a game that got more than a 6 in reviews or is it basically just a way for gabe to cash in on all the gullible faggots who think they can make a video game but who in reality have zero talent whatsoever
Re: steam greenlight general
I won't look at a game while it's in greenlight personally.
I'm not forking over money for something that's not even finished.

Re: steam greenlight general
there have been good greenlight games! genuinely! there's a couple of good medieval strategy ones, forgot the names of them. and starbound started out there. the avgn game was there too, if that means anything. so it's not 100% shit. though it is pretty close.
honestly the $100 entry fee is very reasonable. if you're planning on putting a named, developed and full-fledged title up on the official steam market, you'd better damn well mean it. and if you're some loser who can't actually make a game, but still wants to publish 5% of a game that you didn't even make, it's your own stupid mistake, and you paid exactly $100 (plus the money spent on assets, if any) for it.

starbound started out on the humble store not steam and it took them like two years to come out with their funding promises and shitLKE wrote:there have been good greenlight games! genuinely! there's a couple of good medieval strategy ones, forgot the names of them. and starbound started out there. the avgn game was there too, if that means anything. so it's not 100% shit. though it is pretty close.

unity is a curse and its only shining paragon is physblocks
Re: steam greenlight general
unity is a great and dev-friendly engine, it only has a bad name because so many people don't know how to fucking use it and the games they make in it look like shit when they know nothing about how to code shadows or make good looking models

Re: steam greenlight general
indie shit my fucking ass, interstellar marines looks solid except it looks way too similar to advanced warfare and doesnt show much in what it has to offer, let alone if it offers anything totally new. It showed that stealth bomber looking shit but it was parked and you couldnt tell if it was flyable or just for looks.
and feist looks just like that limbo game which even limbo was meh

Re: steam greenlight general
the reason that game was never released was specifically because of the editor crashing and making me lose the entire dogman dong fightBarbecue Obama wrote:what about the game where you play as FD and you run from RTCity's dad
