Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
context:
During the original blackout, many people suspected that it was because the admin team was pushing Victoria to do a bunch of shady highly commercial things around AMA's. In the meantime, you have the really awkward ham-fisted Tom Hanks incident, and then much has been quiet... until a few days ago.
Background: an "anonymous account" submits a Lil Dicky video, which is removed by the mods, who have long been suspecting vote manipulation (disclaimer: I love Lil Dicky greatly). The plot thickens when an admin tries to intervene on behalf of Lil Dicky's team and this "anonymous account." This is the woman who replaced Victoria, Wynter Mitchell who by all signs seems to be a diversity hire.Let us count the ways:
- She is so incompetent, a novelty account is formed to translate her answers
- She posts in /r/blackladies (don't even get me started) that she was hired to "build relationships... with the social justice community
- Uses sexist terminology like "mansplaining" p4
The icing on the cake, is when reddit serves up this ad for Lil Dicky in Upvoted, the new project that /u/kn0thing is devoting all of his time to while the core platform whithers and dies. Is it time for another Blackout?
Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
more wacky shenanigans:
Why is almost every single community manager in existence some overly defensive social justice warrior who defines themselves by their genitalia?
Who the hell legitimately drops the word 'mansplain', and in a professional context?
This topic was made to discuss her failure of transparancy:https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAction/comments/3pvqqv/drama_victorias_replacement_is_all_about/
But I would like to use this one to discuss the fact that Reddit hired an SJW who sucks at their job (as evidence of AMA's community fixing her Bill Murray answers given their bland sloppiness) and melts down screaming 'Misogyny' at the drop of a hat. Where do they find these people, honestly?
Edit:
/r/Videos moderator /u/AdamDaze...Hi, I'm the mod in the picture. Nice to see some support here, when I brought this up in a default mod subreddit I was shouted down for "being a dick to an admin". I was repeatedly told that her sexism was totally fine because I, apparently, earnt it by being "rude".
I'm not sure that it was explained to me when I joined up to moderate that I should buy a ticket in the hugbox parade. My "job" is to ensure our subreddit isn't being taken advantage of, unfairly, by anyone. This admin could have avoided all the stress by simply, and clearly, communicating an answer in response to my first enquiry.
I make no apologies for not "letting go" of the matter because it wasn't explained to my satisfaction. I make no apologies for asking direct, pointed questions. Anyone that thinks expecting clear, concise answers to clear, concise questions is "rude" needs to get into the real world workforce. The admin in question, one month ago:Hey, respect for sharing your opinion in a way that wasn't just "You're a dick".
I've run my own business, and the tone I used in this message isn't anything like the tone I'd use in a "professional" communication. But for context, by this point we were fairly sure LD/management had a relationship with admins, and had been "Greased" in around the place.
Avoidance of my questions had me smelling a rat and I unapologetically wanted answers. "Why did you only just contact me" is not an answer to my question. When the deflections started I wasn't really interested. I came across as direct, and somewhat harsh, but that was intentional.
I don't have time for window dressing, when there's a problem I want information. In a professional environment, I've found it works wonderfully, because as fast/harsh as communication may be in the heat of the moment, you always sit back at the end of the day and congratulate people, have a beer, etc.
But lord help you if I ask you a simple question and you avoid giving me an answer. If you're hiding something you should be responsible for, I'll fire your ass. I suppose that mentality came across in this message, compounded by the fact after many years on this site I've become somewhat "jaded" to admin interaction.
To the admins credit, my experiences with them in the last 3-4 months (since the blackout) have been vastly improved. A lot faster responses, some new tools, etc. It was all going well till 808, ( and has been since with the rest of the team).oh god damnitHey! My job is to build relationships with the great entertainment, social justice and political community. Working more closely with influencers to have the enjoy reddit as much as we do, as often as we do. I'm a long time redditor myself (this is my work name not my private name) and Im here to extoll the virtues of the platform. Im excited. Whenever I can I pop into subreds I frequent with this username so I can talk to you guys and the mods and see what's happening. I just wanted to make my presence known, and that Im here!
Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
tumblrinaction is going politically correct and all of a sudden things like this are in the filters
Context:
So it all started in April last year, when the mods on /r/TumblrInAction decided to ban swearing as an April fools joke. It went on longer than a few days, so the users started to panic and one of us went on to make /r/TumblrPls, which later became a more lenient version of the original sub. Fast forward to the fattening, we made the sub private to protect it from SJW report brigading. The creator of the sub later becomes a well known and popular mod on /r/TumblrInAction.
I pretty much abandoned Reddit at that point, and moved here (this is an alt account), only occasionally going back to Reddit to keep an eye on /r/TumblrPls. Then a few days ago, the original creator of /r/TumblrInAction decides to remove a bunch of the moderators because they were abusing their powers enforcing a rule made to keep Coontown and FPH off the sub.
So then the outraged creator of /r/TumblrPls decides to take in all of the mods that were banned from /r/TumblrInAction, and mod them over at /r/TumblrPls. Drama wave ensues, more TiA mods resign and move to Tpls, and the subscribers on Tpls spikes from 900+ (only 300 were approved when it was private) to 2500+.
So now TiA is probably going to get nuked when Coontown and FPH start to show up every now and then, and Tpls has gone from the bastion of free speech among the TiA family, to the same boring filtered crap it existed to run away from.
Fuck Reddit.

reddit shadowbanned a dude who made /r/iamverybutthurt and deleted the sub in <1 hour

Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
how so? the reason people are clamoring to have her fired is because she's bringing her politics into a job where they do not belong, in a job that she's already doing extremely poorly inL. Ron Hoyabembe wrote:its funny how people are trying to get victorias replacement fired because that violates free speech
most AMAs are organized entirely by the subreddits now, not the job victoria had
Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
reddit just implemented a new way to basically shadowban people, except now you can't even tell

reddit's new privacy policy is looming and it's reputedly full of some dumb clauses so we'll see how that goes

Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
almost every sub has the same site-wide reddit bullshit except for gestapo subs like askhistorians (which is top shit)pimpbot wrote:there are always gonna be some good subreddits
reddit isn't one uniform body, its a bunch of different communities rolled under one service
Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
for example i check out their 3d printing section every now and again and you usually see a couple MAKE A BERNIE SANDERS MEME prints (with libertarians) and dickbutts and other stupid meme shit
Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
ya if you're not in a "mod going in deep" sub shit's pretty culturally homogeneous
Re: THE GREAT REDDIT WAR OF 2015
MSM trying to spin the shitshow that has been the past year for reddit into some sort of net positive as if it hasn't shown that reddit has no control of the ship and everybody on their board is too busy drinking the kool-aid and damage controlling to turn a profit
