Today in history, January 20th: 250- Emperor Decius begins mass persecution of Christians.
1265- The first English Parliament takes place with representatives in London, Margaret Thatcher goes ham and destroys a navy battlegroup.
1320- Duke Wladyslaw Lokietek becomes king of Poland, Poland is still in the stone age as of this time.
1567- The Frenchies (shockingly) loose to the Portuguese in the Battle of Rio de Janeiro.
1783- The Brits officially give up ending our Great War of Independence by signing the peace treaty with Spain and France.
1841- The no good western imperial whites strike again with the British begging their occupation of Hong Kong Island
1887- The United States Senate allows the Navy to lease Pearl Harbour.
1936- Edward VIII is crowned King of England.
1948- United Nations Security Council Resolution 39 is adopted, resolving the Kashmir Sweater Conflict.
1972- Pakistan begins its nuclear program after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, insert radical conservative rhetoric about foreign nuclear programs here.
1981- Iran releases 52 American hostages 20 minutes after godsend all high and mighty hallowed be thy name Mr. Perfect Ronald Reagan is inaugurated as president of this fine country.
1990- The Red Army cracks down on protests in Azerbaijan during the dissolution of the Soviet Union (which of course is all because of godsend all high and mighty hallowed be thy name Mr. Perfect Ronald Reagan's actions and nobody else's)
