yeah i was planning on finishing it by the end of the year especially over christmas break. not sure where you heard 2-4 years from everywhere i've read says not to expect any longer than a year. of course the book could flop in the short run but often they do better as paperback reprints especially when they have 3-5 sequels (probably 4). there is a higher correlation between quality and success than many people would lead you to believe (cue snarky remark from like spinny who i almost called snippy for some reason or dg implying my book isn't quality posting) also i'm 16

And even though it's basically the publisher's job to make it sell, there's no promise that it will. Your revenue % has a dominant hand in that, too

it's not a "signing bonus" it's the publisher trying to rip you off, for the first 5,000 books or so they give you like $5,000 dollars and then every book after that you get 5% of the revenue or whatever. the idea is that if your book doesn't hit their target you're making more money and if it's a runaway hit the money you would've lost on it is partially exchanged for a higher royalty and pretty small compared to your lump sum anyway

we get people who stop hand making their products in turn for training a bunch of people to make the products the way you would (or teaching them) who pays those workers for manufacturing a product he created. or, if you really hate humanity and the thought of paying humans, robots!!!
