federal government isn't state government and they're often at odds

if u can show me evidence that the chinese federal government is working to protect religious freedom i will drive to colorado springs and eat charles wingates ass and film it and put it on youtube

well they at least make a big show of it, it's in their constitution

they don't seem to have a problem with religion as much as organizations that don't want to affiliate with the government's religious organizations, falun gong for example got mad at the chinese government because of "shifting attitudes towards qigong in the government" (wikipedia) and withdrew instead of lobbying or just putting up with it. to be fair of course the chinese government puts regulations against anything it considers superstitious which is going to be a problem for a lot of these wacky sects that should be totally allowed to operate as they so desire. the chinese government feels like religious organizations could potentially be subversive which is true, many a time has a government been toppled by a network of churches
