chat clients and social networks (zilchexo advocates child porn/drug abuse)

i realize   bernie sanders' statement on 'more deodorant types than we need' is widely mocked but this has to be a case where he's right, like if you want to send a buddy a string of text from an android cell phone to an android cell phone here are your options, just out of the ones that aren't effectively abandonware, have adoption that isn't minimal in america, and are marketed towards consumers ('normies')-
instagram dms
twitter dms
facebook messenger
tumblr messenger
discord
skype (this one is actually being retooled into a business tool which is why nobody uses it seriously why won't you guys use like discord instead)
kik
bbm
telegram
hangouts/google+
snapchat
vine
voxer
oovoo
this isn't even including very minor services like tox, aim, yahoo messenger et al
the best thing? none of these are cross compatible
so here's a question- which ones do you guys actually use? in san antonio facebook (for the ultra-normies obviously), discord, and snapchat seem to dominate. instagram was popular for a while but got crushed by snapchat. from what i can tell snapchat and possibly instagram reign in puerto rico, maybe whatsapp and kik.
i want to like instagram because the lack of any sharing features should make it a great, meme-free platform for actually socializing but its focus on photography pigeonholed it to people you know taking selfies with people you don't know. telegram is (partially) open source and people are actually using it, which is great, of course it's text only. twitter and tumblr have shitty communities but great OC/shitposts. twitter in particular is limited both at giving status updates for things that matter and starting conversations, it's mostly just yelling your crap opinions into the void which you can also do on more anonymous and powerful services like tumblr that have a much higher likelihood of starting a conversation. kik et al. are just "pointless texting alternative #23431987123" but at least snapchat has other features and is somewhat universal so i like it. i've seen hangouts and g+ as very solid but dead, and discord is obviously solid for gaming.
for all it's issues, i can see why ultra-normies stick with facebook beyond "all my friends use it"- it's the ultimate "keep in touch" platform. you don't make a post on facebook to tell people you're "chillin", you make a post on facebook to spur up a discussion or tell people about your life, even if it's meme- and game-infested. i remember i stopped using it often because like three of the relatives on my dad's side were sharing overtly racist obama memes and refused to believe that a page with the picture of a chimpanzee is anything more than "harmless jokes".
i personally am about to create a discord, a vine and a telegram and already use snapchat, facebook (barely), and tumblr (barely)

the closest think that i use to a chat client or social media is steam and (if forums count as a social network) this and sometimes rot

really not that interested in peering into the lives or others or allowing strangers to examine my life 24/7 fam

i'm pretty lonely that much is true but anything kik can do snapchat can do better and that's not even my opinion at this point that's just fact

that being said i totally understand not being interested in social networks at all- instagram appealed to teenagers and youngies for about a year before everyone realized they had nothing worth posting and weren't interested in what others were posting. i think the general trend is away from social networks and towards more direct one-on-one and group interactions. just like real life, but electronically aided.

i aint sure how it is on snapchat but on kik messages are deleted when you log out

i use the willis mcpee hack client to talk to anyone actually relevent

I use FB Messenger, Steam and XBL to keep in contact with people. I used skype in the past, but I don't know anyone that still uses it. I use Tumblr for the couple of people that I follow.
