finn is likeable, jake is to a point. ironically through its allergy to sticking with the pitch formula that was followed pretty well in season 1 with a couple goofy slice of life episodes scattered throughout . nobody gives a fuck about this farm boy finn thing that never led to anything, nobody gives a fuck about him losing his arm, nobody gives a fuck about jake's children, precisely for the reason the showrunners are so autistically obsessed with subverting your expectations and traditional media formulas designed to lead to satisfying conclusions that they never get any. the flame princess arc could've been an interesting arc with a valuable lesson but it didn't do a good enough job of showing finn learning from his mistakes.

BASICALLY what i'm trying to say is that these problems with the way the show is run were there to some extent all along but really only started showing fangs in season 5 with the farm arc and lich things. minor discontent with certain episodes going absolutely nowhere, looking back from what it is now, makes you kind of loathe it because you understand the level of incompetence that caused that better.

tl;dr not enough goofy adventures and misadventures and too much stupid literally pointless drama

so yeah the arcs are a problem because they don't usually go anywhere with some exceptions but the standalone episodes... they've completely run out of ideas. there's literally an episode where jake's tail runs away to join a bug circus and work as a clown for an evil ringmaster

that AND they can't resolve anything within the episodes usually
