seriously there would be 0 people complaining about how broken the electoral college system is if hillary had won(even though it's a pretty legitimate concern even though we do have reasons for the system being in place)

it's never been a problem for republicans worth pointing out because democrats always win the popular vote except in 2004. hell mark my words the day this country adopts IRV is the day the republican party begins to die unless they really take trump's new vision for the party seriously (and GOD did it need it- they almost ran another romney clone in 2012, showing that they would've learned nothing from anything without him)

what reasons could we possibly have for keeping the electoral college if anything the whole system should go to shit and we should replace it with ranked choice voting but we certainly wouldn't need anything similar to the EC for that

right now the popular vote discrepancy is like <0.5% which may even be within the margin of error for counting votes

yeah honestly there's talk among hillshills to get the ec to flip it but what would be the point; the only claim they have to that is "trump bad" and "we won the popular vote" but it's obviously not going to be like gore where he won the popular vote decisively it's going to be in a razor thin margin and 3000 votes shouldn't decide the election when we already have an established way of doing it

the ec is completely rigged, the difference is that it's designed to favor conservatives. electors used to be distributed proportionally but the deep south changed its rules on that and every other state gradually did the same thing, especially when the populist party was gaining power
