if i said that word for word that was hyperbole because jacksonville does trade with other countries but yes we're a very large portion of their economy and that's just a fact

puerto rico otoh doesn't even get as much federal funding as nevada, the wealthiest state per capita. shit's fucked up. if we're "leeches" we're not doing a very good job of it because y'all don't give us shit and probably would continue to do so if we became independent. in federal spending as percentage of gdp we're around the middle. we get less federal spending per person than any state despite such great need, which is shown in for example mississippi, the most dependent state in the union. that's the clear difference, we and mississippi are in very similar situations but we've been basically left to die
