tl;dr the diverse background of puerto rico at its particular racial proportions provided a favorable genetic admixing environment. out of samples of a few dozen countries (excluding similar countries like the dominican republic and brazil i think) the puerto rican set has the most favorable amounts of "good" and "bad" genes.
