I respect Americans but I have no respect for the pathetic troglodyte South that gave up their American citizenship and killed Americans to defend their institution of slavery (and a real historical analysis will show that they did not rebel for states' rights particularly given the fact that their confederate government was adamant that the states could not ban slavery among other contradictory policies - lost cause and 'justified war' are anachronistic fabrications) even though industrialization was already sweeping the North and West and outproducing everything except cotton textiles (would have if they had cotton farming in the region)

There is no reason to be ashamed of being from a state in the South but there is shame to be had in being proud of one of America's worst enemies

The CSA killed more Americans than the reds or Nazis ever managed to and their admirers have the gall to consider themselves "American patriots"

One of the big grievances of the South also was the fact that the North exercised their state rights to ban slavery in their own states (along with not returning escaped slaves)

I can respect Lee as a man and as a citizen with a sense of honor and duty but he can not be considered a "patriotic American" for his role

dude what robert e. lee was born in virginia, raised in virginia, and died in virginia, which is decidedly NOT "deep" in confederate territory seeing as a good 2/3rds of the war was fought in and around it

you can't even really say he lived deep into virginia either because the lee estate was right across a fork of the chesapeake from maryland
