Re: quantumbound general
i have a reason to believe she didn't see it at all as i sent it to her while she was on break for the holidays so i tried to contact her again on the third. if she doesn't respond by march i'll give up and submit a proper application when its donegeorge lucas wrote:so its been a month fd have you heard back
also, please don't fuckin name your book in a similar way to ASOIAF
"a song of fire and clay" is a minor subtitle and only on one book the second onesamoyed wrote:but spinny
fd is leetirally going to be the next george rr martin
he might as well get the naming scheme started as soon as possible
it's like almost 100 now and also are you suggesting this is what LJR will do or what you did or whatoaky wrote:A Review of William Paul Baker Sepulveda-Guevara Castro IV's "QuantumBound I", or, Why I Only Read 4 Pages of a 12 Page So-Called 'Masterpiece'

guess what kiddos!!!
italicized is canned text that's also on their website. for refreshers this is what i sent her to begin with-LJR wrote:Dear Paul,
Thank you so much for your query. You are a remarkably talented and imaginative writer, and your drive and professionalism are exceptional and impressive, especially for someone your age. I'm afraid that your work is not a good fit for me at this time (I am taking on very few new projects), but I strongly encourage you to keep writing and to keep trying for publication.
At ABLA, we understand that writing is a passion, an intensely personal calling, a long-time dream for many, and frequently a lonely endeavor. We have great respect for authors, and we share the writer's passion—that is why we are literary agents.
Unfortunately, publishing is a business that necessarily involves a lot of rejection, at every stage. One of the most difficult things for us as agents is to have to say no. Yet, we can take on only a small fraction of all the work we see, and this is simply a business reality.
We say no for many reasons—because of changing trends in the market; because we already have something similar on our list; because we know of similar published or forthcoming titles; because something isn't right for us; because although something may be strong, well-written and even publishable, we didn't fall in love with it.
Please do try to keep this one "no" in perspective. This is a highly subjective business and another agent may adore your work. All it takes is one "Yes." We wish you success in finding that "Yes," whether with us or another agent and publisher.
Thank you for thinking of us and giving us this opportunity to consider your work.
All best,
Laura

My name is Paul Baker. What can I say about myself? I'm 16, going on 17, am Puerto Rican, have autism, ADHD, and PTSD, like all of the dorky stuff like anime, though I like to think I have more refined tastes, and could be the youngest published sci-fi novelist soon.
I've written over 50 pages of the first installment in a character-based, defiantly modern, hard space opera called QuantumBound (QB: Igneous, for the first book) that I've been brainstorming for about 5 years, and that's just in its current form. So it's not quite ready for submission yet. But you're one of the three agents I was going to send it to anyway once it was done, and I was wondering if you could help me with something.
A lot of people who know I'm writing a book, most of whom haven't even read it, are incredulous on its viability on the market and quality. Someone dared me to send it to someone who's opinion mattered to see if they thought QB can be what I think it can be, and, I'll be honest, I settled on you because I thought you'd like it the most. I think this would be a great way to set me on the right track to finishing this book. Any problems you can spot I can fix in my next draft and down the line, and you can tell me right off the bat if you think it'll be worth publishing. Best of all, if you really like it, you can get dibs.
Effectively, I'm approaching you as both a proofreader and as an agent in specific, because though the book is not ready for publishing quite yet, I do intend to send it to agents down the line. If you want to proofread it or just tell me if it interests you as an agent, either is fine, and if it does interest you, perhaps we can pick up negotiations when the book is done.
If you would be generous enough to agree to this, please tell me if you want to see a standard submission or something else. Thank you.

Re: quantumbound general
so i think both me and spinny were at least a little bit disappointed but hey it was nice to hear that the main reason i'm being turned down is because it's "not a good fit" and "I am taking on very few new projects" and not "nope", plus she gave me some compliments
