what should i name my book
Re: quantumbound general
tbh we could probably suggest some stuff if the plot that you gave us wasn't so vague
seriously what do you expect us to come up with from:
"suicidal guy doesn't commit suicide because of some quantum bs and drags his buddies with him just because and then there's dragons and an evil empire and people die"

Re: quantumbound general
regarding the "if the only goal of your title is to make people curious about the book" thing, i really don't know what else i'd use a title for, unless you mean a title that fits the work's subject matter. and there's just so much to cover in that regard i can only draw a blank.
start it at 9 seconds or some shit
anyway that wasn't really a "i need to do a book report due tomorrow and got 5 pages in" summary, more of a "hey what's that book you're carrying about?" summary
also if anything seems unrealistic about anything i tell you guys chances are i've thought so as well and went and did research and verified it but that type of skepticism is still valuable, the book aims for "no suspension of disbelief required" totally-within-the-realm-of-real-not-hypothetical-science (and history, regarding dragons) after all, so please tell me

- here goes:
- the two aliums, the krominians, are part of a task force organized by a krominian who isn't even mentioned in the first book to destroy the empire before it destroys them. they travel to earth to recruit people into a subdivision of the task force that aims to battle the empire head on- earth because it is one of the only two planets that haven't had any successful contact with the empire and are advanced civilizations, and as you can guess much of the plot revolves around the other planet. (empire SOP is to invade as soon as successful contact is made, as they consider this only possible after the end of a civilization's "character-building" process in which they are made the best and most efficient versions of themselves) rufus, alex's friend, is fucking stacked like bruce lee, and the krominians happen to see him and attempt to recruit him, which he eventually agrees to, having nothing to lose. he tells them to expect two other people who also have nothing to lose and have certain skills, being alex and his sister red. alex and red can no longer afford to pay off their apartment because red got fired for being a bit pushy about the wage theft problem at her workplace and alex's publix job isn't enough, so alex decides suicide is better than homelessness (also his mom committed suicide not sure if i mentioned that). he's stopped by rufus, and rufus tells him about current events. they then meet up with the aliums, who give them the full if-you-back-out-after-what-we're-about-to-tell-you-we-will--have-to-kill-you briefing. they freak out and want to bail but eventually accept. the krominians use money stolen from bank accounts they decided wouldn't really miss the money to buy a yacht capable of sailing across the pacific to a non-specific "remote area", and alex, being the team's navigator, puts in some coordinates he remembers his mother putting on her suicide note, which turn out to be Xiao Lanyu (Lesser Orchid Island). after they've already decided that either the coordinates were wrong or remembered wrong or meaningless or something, alex falls into one of their secret exits, gets knocked out and wakes up in a room with Waifu Dragon, who is the daughter of the Head of Department of Surface, or General, and so the human was his business. Waifu Dragon puts off immediately telling her piece of shit dad alex has woken up to have a conversation with him on how he got inside the volcano, and then transmits what he told her to her piece of shit dad. they make him go back up and retrieve his companions and they're all given a proper, if a bit suspicious, welcoming. plot gets put on hold for a little bit here, maybe 100 pages, to show the reader how dragon society works and introduce them to the cast as well as to intellectually toot the book's own horn with stupid social analysis, and then suddenly a group of assassins targeting one of the krominians, kria, (i'm thinking maybe 20 or so i haven't worked this out all the way tbh) wormhole in and try to wreck shit which takes up another 100 pages or so. hajyo, zurroon's little sister and bekaard's daughter, is killed, and some stuff is pillaged, but ultimately the situation was handled about as well as it could be. the general tries to turn the dragons on the visitors which works to a small extent even after kria blames himself in front of an assembly both because it really was his fault and so nobody else gets blamed. the book ends with a newly expanded group standing in front of the wormhole that will lead them to the other planet.
also if anything seems unrealistic about anything i tell you guys chances are i've thought so as well and went and did research and verified it but that type of skepticism is still valuable, the book aims for "no suspension of disbelief required" totally-within-the-realm-of-real-not-hypothetical-science (and history, regarding dragons) after all, so please tell me

I've completed the mostly final draft of the first 30 pages! It's a good stopping point so I may put it on a ghostbin with a password since I plan on releasing free previews anyway. In fact, I will. The encryption key is fuknigga. If you want past this point contact me.

Re: quantumbound general
quantumbound with contemporary connotations would either
-confuse the potential audience and make them walk away because they think it's gonna be some weird shit
-make them think it's some weird shit they're not interested in because 'quantum' was worn out years ago as a catch-all 'insert for science fiction' term
i think you should change it

Re: quantumbound general
good point, i didn't think of that. for now it's "quantumbound: igneous" with the book cover putting the emphasis on "igneous", which is the best i can muster unless someone suggests something better.oaky wrote:quantumbound with contemporary connotations would either

giant homosexuality warning: there's a poem in there too, it's the first example of artifacts of dragon culture i want to sprinkle around the books. i think the meter makes it tolerable but if it's unreadable and cringy please tell me

Re: quantumbound general
alright so if i do settle on another name i know it's going to have something to do with dragons, metaphorically possibly, probably how they've been hiding.
right now it's "quantumbound: igneous" vs. "quantumbound: the caged phoenix" vs. "quantumbound: a [song/tale/yodel] of fire and clay" vs. "quantumbound: [wildcard]". i'm still leaning toward igneous 2bh

Re: quantumbound general
yeah no i don't want a best seller to my name named something like that and it will have a much harder time becoming a best seller with that namesamoyed wrote:you know if you're solely going for the ya audience you could always go with some ironic bs like quantumbound: kingdom of the dragons or something
that being said, i think i'm eliminating "a song of fire and clay" for being too derivative and luring in asoiaf fans who will almost certainly be disappointed at least slightly and replacing it with "quantumbound: bound bird", which makes me think that i can have each of the titles in the series refer to links or ties metaphorically, and i was already planning on naming the finale "quantumbound: fourteenfold freed"

Re: quantumbound general
see i was of the understanding that the story actually had to be decent to be a best seller, and while the title may have some impact on the reader, the story itself is more important

Re: quantumbound general
and let's be honest, most ya book titles are pretty garbage anyway, so it's not like the title has to bee that good anyway
(see books like: the book thief, the harry potter series, the fault in our stars, etc)
(not saying that the books are bad but the titles are pretty eh)
